Early Childhood Community Conversations

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is leading an effort to explore potential investments for young children in our community.

Research demonstrates that early childhood programs have one of the strongest returns on investment for any type of public program. Positive outcomes associated with early childhood programs include:

  • Better school performance
  • Higher rates of employment as adults
  • Less contact with the criminal justice system

Thousands of families in Harris County simply lack access to essential resources for their children. That’s why Judge Hidalgo wants to dig deeper with you to explore what Harris County could offer to help each new generation grow up stronger, safer, and better prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. Judge Hidalgo will host a series of Early Childhood Community Conversations to inform the County’s efforts to provide more opportunities for children in Harris County.

Join Us Online for a Virtual Community Conversation

This June, we are hosting small, informal virtual conversations around early childhood needs. Parents and caregivers are invited to join us and share their stories, hopes, and pressing needs around raising children ages zero to three. The 45 minute sessions are offered in Vietnamese, Arabic, and Spanish, as well as in English, with two sessions for fathers only. Each session is limited to five families. These conversations will help inform our early childhood efforts.

Would you support us by either signing up to participate in a session and/or sharing these events with families interested in participating? Sign up by clicking here and selecting the session you are most interested in.

We hope to connect with you soon!

Schedule of Community Conversations

Below is our upcoming schedule of events. Each conversation will have a different topic that builds upon the previous discussion, so we encourage you to attend as many as possible.

For additional questions about events, language accessibility, or to request accommodations, please contact us at early.childhood@cjo.hctx.net or (713) 274-7000. Food will be provided and kids are welcome!
