Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo Announces Additional Federal Resources for Imelda Recovery

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo today announced thatTropical Storm Imelda survivors in Harris County will be eligible to apply for additional resources fromthe Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist in their recovery. Residents can apply forindividual assistance through FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program (IHP), which providesfinancial help and/or direct services to survivors, including assistance with housing or other disasterrelated needs. 

“The destructive impact of Tropical Storm Imelda continues to weigh heavily on far too many of ourresidents,” said Judge Hidalgo. “Survivors deserve to have every resource available and we will not stopfighting to help our communities make this recovery as quick and effective as possible. I’d like to thankHarris County employees along with our federal and state elected representatives for their hard work inhelping us secure these vital Federal resources. I encourage anyone who needs help to apply today.”

Based on recent estimates from both the City of Houston and Harris County, over 2500 homes acrossHarris County have been reported impacted by flooding. For information on how to apply for federalassistance through the FEMA IHP program and other resources for Imelda recovery, residents can visitreadyharris.org or dial 211. Other resources continue to be available as well, including help with clean-upand debris removal offered by local non-profit agencies.

Last week, Judge Hidalgo and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner established the Imelda Assistance Fund,another resource that will be made available to provide aid to those affected by Tropical Storm Imelda.Fund grants and services will be disbursed via non-profit organizations experienced in disaster recovery.Residents seeking to donate financial resources can donate by visiting ReadyHarris.org.
