Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo Urges Residents to Stay Weather Aware and Have Hurricane Preparedness Kits and Plans Ready

Harris County, TX, July 6, 2024 – Please see statement below from Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo.

The Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is closely monitoring Beryl as it tracks across the Gulf of Mexico. Forecast confidence is increasing that Beryl will make landfall Southwest of Harris County, around the Matagorda Bay area. Given the forecast at this time, the concerns for our region are currently limited to rain, gusty winds, and some minor coastal flooding. Specifically, we are anticipating heavy rains early next week, but nothing beyond street flooding according to the current forecast.

“Our community is understandably concerned because this is the first potential hurricane this year to impact the Texas Coast. That said, at this time this storm does not look to be severe for our area. Regardless of the forecast, given that we are now in hurricane season, it is always good to ensure your preparedness supplies are in order, including a hurricane preparedness kit, and a plan with your family.  We are monitoring and activated at Level 3: Increased Readiness, coordinating with first response partners, and the State of Texas. We advise that people pay attention to the forecast and stay weather aware.”
