Judge Hidalgo Continues Efforts to Implement Most Kid-Friendly Workplace Policies in Harris County History

Harris County, TX, July 9, 2026, Commissioners Court approved Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s item to survey Harris County employees who care for young children to better understand their needs, challenges, and experiences. Harris County Human Resources & Talent (HRT) will use the results to present recommendations on new policies to implement at the October 6, 2026 Commissioners Court.

This effort builds on Judge Hidalgo’s progress to implement some of the most family-friendly workplaces in Harris County history. Beginning in 2020, Judge Hidalgo’s advocacy led to policies including 12 weeks of paid parental leave for both mothers and fathers, additional sick leave to care for kids, lactation rooms in county buildings, and more resources for finding and selecting child care.

“Supporting parents and children has been one of my top priorities since I took office. This survey is a way to build on the great work we’ve already done and see where we still have room for improvement so we can continue supporting our Harris County families,” said Judge Hidalgo.
