Harris County, TX, September 1, 2026 - Ahead of the incoming tropical storm, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is encouraging residents to make their preparations for heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding by this afternoon.
The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) is currently activated at Level II: High Readiness to monitor the rain and potential flash flooding. County departments have high water rescue vehicles on standby across the county ready to respond if needed. Especially as rain continues overnight, emergency management officials will monitor creeks and bayous for flooding.
Residents should plan to stay off the roads as much as possible once rainfall begins this afternoon. Heavy rain could cause street flooding issues during rush hour that could make commuting dangerous. If you have to drive, remember to never drive into high water.
