Harris County, TX, April 22, 2024 – This Earth Day, Harris County and the Texas Solar for All Coalition received a major federal grant of $250 million to fund the clean energy transition. Over the past year, Harris County led the Texas Solar for All Coalition, a group of six Texas county and city governments, as well as state energy nonprofits, in applying for this historic federal funding.
“I can’t wait to make this a reality. As the energy capital of the world, it is a matter of survival for Harris County to be at the forefront of the clean energy transition. This investment will not only protect our environment in a region that has lived the effects of climate change, but it will also help ensure that energy jobs remain in the region as the world’s energy sources continue to evolve. I am so proud of how six different county and city governments led by Harris County came together with the federal government to make this possible. Thank you to the Biden Administration for providing this crucial support,” said Judge Lina Hidalgo.
Judge Hidalgo will continue Harris County’s advocacy and leadership on clean energy in a visit to the White House in May.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s $7 billion Solar for All competition is part of the broader $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund that was created under the Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law by President Biden in 2022. Harris County and the Texas Solar for All Coalition bested jurisdictions from around the nation to receive this funding.
