Harris County, TX, April 12, 2024, Earlier today, Judge Hidalgo held an illuminating meeting with the Harris County Auditor, the departments involved (Engineering Department, Flood Control Department and Harris County Toll Road Authority), the Purchasing Department and the County Administrator's Office. The audits can be found on the Auditor’s website. The Harris County Commissioners Court does not oversee the Harris County Auditor. Rather, he reports to a board of district court judges.
Judge Lina Hidalgo issued the following statement in response to Harris County’s independent Auditor Office’s Findings in three audits:
“I am so glad this information is out in the open, and I’m grateful to the Auditor’s Office, Departments, and Precinct Offices for collaborating with him. For years, I have been raising the alarm about procurement taking place outside of the county’s purchasing department. Until now, the details and impacts of those practices were impossible to discern. Thankfully, these troubling findings are allowing us to see the need for fundamental and urgent changes. I am excited to present my proposal for moving forward on Monday.”
