Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins Place Wager on Astros vs. Rangers American League Championship Series

Harris County, TX - October 13, 2023

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins agreed to a friendly wager on the Houston Astros vs Texas Rangers American League Championship Series.

If the Astros win, Judge Jenkins has agreed to make a donation to the Astros Foundation and wear Astros gear the day after the last game of the series. If the Rangers win, Judge Hidalgo has agreed to donate to the Texas RangersBaseball Foundation and wear Rangers gear the day after the series.

“It’s great that Dallas County thinks the Rangers have a chance against last year’s World Series champions. Harris County is so proud of the Astros and their hard work, which has gotten them to the championship series for theseventh year in a row. I wish the Rangers the best, but we all know who’s bringing the American League pennant home this year,” said Judge Lina Hidalgo.

“After watching the Rangers sweep both the Rays and the Orioles, I’m looking forward to this Lone Star State battle and to Judge Hidalgo’s donation to the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation for youth baseball and softball in West Dallas after the Rangers win the series,” said Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins.

The Astros Foundation is the official 501(c)(3) team charity of the Houston Astros. It seeks to harness the passion of Astros fans to support youth sports and education programs, honor  the nation's military, raise awareness about childhood cancer and domestic violence, and promote efforts to reduce homelessness. 

The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of those in the community, especially children, military, first responders, and their families, through meaningful programming and partnerships focused oneducation, health, and athletics. Since 2017, the Foundation has operated the Texas Rangers Youth Academy at the Mercy Street Sports Complex in West Dallas, where they provide free year-round baseball and softball instruction to kidsages 7-18.
