Judge Lina Hidalgo to Meet with Biden Harris Administration in Washington D.C. on Wednesday

Judge Lina Hidalgo will travel to Washington D.C. Tuesday, joining a delegation of Texas leaders at the White House on Wednesday. At the meeting, Judge Hidalgo will focus on the successful implementation of projects funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.

"We are grateful for the support from the Biden Harris Administration, enabling us to make a historic, real and lasting difference in the lives of Harris County residents," said Judge Lina Hidalgo. "I look forward to sharing the successes and profound impact of these policies, and discussing how we can further strengthen our collaborative efforts to create more opportunity for Harris County residents."

Under Judge Hidalgo's leadership, Harris County has championed innovative policies and initiatives, securing essential resources to enhance the well-being of its diverse communities. 

These initiatives include, but are not limited to:

  • Education and childcare: over $56 million dedicated to the expansion of educational resources, and increased support for affordable and accessible childcare facilities to ensure a brighter future for Harris County's youth.
  • Public safety and justice: Commissioner Court has committed nearly $119 million to crime prevention, and is already seeing a 10% decrease in crime across the county
  • Healthcare: approximately $160 million in investments towards the county’s healthcare infrastructure and public health initiatives, with a special focus on behavioral and mental health, and a safer environment
  • Economic recovery and job creation: $151 million has been allocated to support small businesses, strengthen workforce development programs and support initiatives to stimulate job growth and economic resilience

Judge Hidalgo's visit to Washington D.C. signifies the strong partnership between Harris County and the Biden Harris Administration in addressing the challenges faced by residents and implementing systematic change to better serve all of Harris County.
