Harris County, TX, February 14, 2026, Harris County Judge Lina HIdalgo released the following statement after a tree branch fell on a crude oil pipeline in Crosby tonight:
“During this evening’s storms, a tree branch fell on an Energy Transfer pipeline valve in the Crosby area and caused a release of crude oil. Approximately 150 gallons of crude oil spilled before Energy Transfer was able to shut off the valve. The crude oil did not reach residents or bodies of water and only extended about 10 feet from the plant fence line. First responders have placed containment booms around the site to stop the spill from spreading any further. Residents on one street were briefly put under a shelter-in-place order as a precaution, but Hazmat teams have since determined that the air is safe to breathe and have lifted the shelter-in-place. No one was injured or sought medical attention as a result of the incident. Thank you to the Crosby Fire Department, the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, Hazmat, and all our first responders for responding to the incident quickly and for keeping residents informed,” said Judge Lina Hidalgo.
